SCAL Help

Ok girls, can you guys help me. I am sitting here playing with SCAL, but am a little confused.

Now when I try to import a svg file, there is the color folder and the layer folder. I am using the color folder. Is that the only one we should be doing? Is the layer folder different? Now if I import each file and put it in a different quadrant on the mat, how do I make sure they are the same size so they layer ok? They are all coming in at different sizes. And I am not sure if when I resize them to be the same size they will print out ok. I am working on the brr now. And have started working on the frames. I have watched a few videos, but am still confused.

I have to go give kids a bath now. Any help would be appreciated. TIA! Once I get over this first hurdle I should be fine after this one. :) Thanks.

  1. Ok, here we go.....

You can use either file, I used the color files first but have just realized recently that I can use the layers file since I have SCAL2.

The first thing we're going to do is change one of your main settings. Click on Edit, then on preferences, then mark the box that says Keep Proportions as default. That will help so you don't have to click it every time you bring in a new color.

If you are using the color file, bring in your first color. I pick the color that has the main item in it so I can size it to what I want. Once you get the first color sized, there is a sizing circle there. Bring in the second color and stretch it until the sizing circle on the second color matches the first. You can lay the second color over to the first to make sure they are the right size. Then I put that color on the mat where I will put that color. Just keep going then until you have all your colors in and sized and placed on the mat where you will cut them. My mat has several colors on it by the time I am done. Wonderful way to use up your scraps!! Remember though that there is a 1/4" difference from where it is on the mat on your screen to where it actually cuts...will take some playing!

    OR.....

Bring in the layers svg and all the pieces are already sized for you. You can highlight all the pieces, ungroup, and then move them around on your mat until you have them placed or you can highlight individual pieces and hide them so they don't cut.

If you still have problems, let me know and if you have a webcam, I will screen share with you and show you what I do. I'm sure there are other ways to do it but this works for me.

  3. Everything is now cut. I used some stickles, so I have to wait for them to dry and then I will put everything together. Thanks for the help again Wendy! How to work this program is getting easier.
